Humboldt penguins

In July 2018 several Humboldt penguins joined us, expanding our aquatic co-workers to a new group of animals, the marine birds. Our Humboldt penguins settled in quickly and could be observed daily diving and jumping through their enclosure which contained more than 180 m³ of water. During training, they were slowly introduced to the skills necessary for their first research project. The penguins were born in the Ozeaneum Stralsund. Unfortunately we had to return all penguins to the Ozeaneum in december 2020 because of an infectious disease. There are currently no plans to resume work with penguins.
