Seminar Current topics of marine mammal research
In this seminar at the Marine Science Center, weekly lectures are held on current topics in marine mammal research. In addition to the researchers from the Marine Science Center, who are primarily responsible for organising the seminar, there are also regular guest speakers who enrich the seminar with fascinating topics.

WM B17 Soft skills
This module aims to cover the fundamentals of academic writing and presenting. Following an in-depth examination of the topics in the lecture sessions, participants will then, in the practical part of the module, write an academic text themselves and/or prepare and deliver an academic presentation. The subsequent discussions will provide an opportunity for detailed feedback.
Degree programme: Bachelor’s in Life Sciences
Semester: Summer semester
Location: Online (Zoom)
Dates: 11 May and 12 May 2021, 11:00–12:30
PM Introduction to scientific working
This module is designed to cover the fundamentals of academic work, writing and presenting. Following individual consultations, participants will then, as part of the practical component, write an academic text themselves and prepare and deliver an academic presentation.
Degree programme: Bachelor’s in Life Sciences
Semester: Summer and winter semesters

Dates:
WPM Comparative behavioural biology
The scientific questions and methods of comparative behavioural biology are explored from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Upon completion of the module, participants will be able to apply evolutionary biological concepts to explain behaviour at the ultimate and proximal levels and to conduct non-invasive behavioural experiments independently.
Degree programme: Master’s in Diversity and Evolution
Semester: Winter semester
Location: Online
Dates: 22 February – 3 March 2021
WPM 12 Marine mammal research/Bioacoustics
The scientific issues and methods of marine mammal research are explored both theoretically (lectures, accompanying seminar) and practically (practical sessions). Upon completion of the module, participants will have acquired a broad knowledge of marine mammal biology and will be able to assist in non-invasive behavioural experiments addressing questions relating to sensory and cognitive biology.
Degree programme: Master’s in Integrative Zoology
Semester: Summer semester
Venue: Marine Science Center, Hohe Düne
Dates: 8 April 2021 (online) preliminary meeting; module 10–28 May 2021 from 09:00 to 17:00
