October 1st, 2022. Our Animal Cognition special issue on "Cognition in marine mammals: the strength of flexibility in adapting to the marine life" is online. Have a look at the numerous publication covering a wide range of topics within the field.

Workshop "Marine mammal sensory systems"

May 19, 2022. We will host a workshop on "Sensory systems of marine mammals" at the Biennial conference of the Society for marine mammology on July 30, 2022. Please join! We offer a lot of space for short presentations, especially from young scientist, presenting their work from ideas to finalized projects - we also reserve space for hopefully fruitful discussions afterwards. The Company of Biologists has given us a small grant so we will be able to reimburse the workshop fee for some attendees, priority will be given to students. Alternatively you can attend the workshop virtually without fee!

The special issue is online!

February 20, 2022. The special issue "Marine Mammal Sensory Systems" is finally online on the webpage of The Anatomical Record online. It contains many fascinating articles on the senses of marine mammals - as fascinating as the workshop on the WMMC 2019 in Barcelona has been, which resulted in this special issue.

Our new harbor seals have arrived

October 13, 2020. Since today, three young seals are completing our seal team. They first had a look, then they listened and finally they sniffed their new surrounding - now the new enclosure is examined in detailed.

Our new dataset on timing in seals is published!

May 10, 2020. It is a pleasure: Tamara's new dataset on timing in seals and fur seals was published in Animal Cognition - please read it, it was published open access and can be found on the homepage of the journal.

Our review on the octopus eye was accepted

30. December 2019. We are happy to announce that the review "The eye of the common octopus (Octopus vulgaris)" was accepted by Frontiers in Physiology. It can now be read on and downloaded from the webpage of the research topic "Vision in cephalopods II".

World Marine Mammal Conference

7. - 12. December 2019.The World Marine Mammal Conference holds place in Barcelona.We are looking forward to chat with scientists from around the world, to discuss at the "Sensory ecology of marine mammals"-workshop, which we have co-organized, and to the presentations from our own research group.

Birthday of the University of Rostock
